short-term gain 2007, short-term loss 2008 E-mail
On last year's (2007) taxes, I paid a good chunk of tax on the short-
term gains of a stock. In 2008, there was a short-term
loss equaling 2007's gain. I'd love to somehow get back some of those
previous taxes. Is there a way, or am I out of luck?

I understand that you never have to take $$$ out of a ROTH IRA (ie: minimum
distribution).
So, if I move $$$ from an IRA to a Roth IRA (and pay the taxes of course)
does this also reduce the minimum distribution required at age 70 1/2?

I am confused about this item:
Suppose I turned 70 1/2 in December of 2008. I have IRAs.
So I have to take mandatory withdrawals.
I understand I would have until April 2009 to take the money.
Do I still declare the income in 2008?
